This coming weekend is the Pinstripe Legends event at the Milwaukee World of Wheels. Pinstripers from all over the country gather to paint art pieces, stripe cars and bikes, share ideas, and see old friends. The art that is produced is auctioned off, and the proceeds go to charity. Last year I went with my friend Brian Papa, who is a striper from Atlanta. We had a great time, met lots of other talented artists, and learned some paint tricks too.
Jeff Williams, who is a amazing artist, was kind enough to let us stay at his home. Jeff could be described as the George Carlin of pinstriping, and is one of my favorite people I've ever met. Every night after the show, we would stay up till the early hours of the morning painting, drinking, and sharing stories. There was a lot of clowning around also, above is a pic of Alan "AJ" Johnson, Alton Gillepie (wearing an Ed Roth mask), and Jeff Williams being jokers.
At the end of the weekend, all the artists were treated to a huge dinner that featured all the delicious food you could eat. This ice sculpture was on a buffet table covered with shrimp and seafood. There was also an open bar, which led to many drunk painters swapping stories with old friends and making new ones. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this year's event because of scheduling conflicts, but I plan to go next year.
